Bases that are highly soluble in water are called alkalis. Two examples are NaOH and KOH, sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxide. Alkalis are very easily dissolved in water due to the virtue of their property by which they form bonds with water molecules very easily. Alkalis are ionic salts of alkaline earth metals.
