ANSWER.
- x = -1/5.
EXPLANATION.
Given –
→ (1 + x)/(1 - x) = 2/3
On cross multiplying, we get,
→ 2(1 - x) = 3(1 + x)
→ 2 - 2x = 3 + 3x
→ 2 - 3 = 3x + 2x
→ 5x = -1
→ x = -1/5
★ So, the value of x is -1/5.
VERIFICATION.
Put x = -1/5 in LHS, we get,
= (1 - 1/5)(1 + 1/5)
= [(5 - 1)/5] ÷ [(5 + 1)/5]
= 4/5 × 5/6
= 4/6
= 2/3
= RHS (Hence Verified)
