value of x = 2 and y = 3

given equations,

1/x + 1/y = 5/6............(1)

and 1/x - 1/y = 1/6 ..............(2)

adding equation (1) with equation (2) we get,

(1/x + 1/y) + (1/x - 1/y) = 5/6 + 1/6

⇒2/x = (5 + 1)/6

⇒2/x = 1

⇒x = 2

now putting value of x = 2 in equation (1)

we get, 1/2 + 1/y = 5/6

⇒1/y = 5/6 - 1/2 = (5 - 3)/6 = 2/6 = 1/3

⇒y = 3

hence value of y = 3
