Answer: (b) Baking powder is a mixture of baking soda NaHCO3,(sodium hydrogen carbonate)and a mild edible acid such as tartaric acid. When baking powder mixes with water (form a king cake or bread), sodium hydrogen carbonate reacts with tartaric acid to evolve carbon dioxide gas.

Mild edible acid is added to baking soda,so that to eliminate the metallic(bitter) taste of sodium. So that makes baking soda=baking power. Baking powder is used in preparation of food.Sep 26, 2013
