Answer:

 - 5\frac{11}{15}

Step-by-step explanation:

(a ± b)² = a² ± 2ab + b²

~~~~~~~~~~~
x² + 3x - 5 = (x + 9)²
x² + 3x - 5 = x² + 18x + 81
15x = - 86
x = - \frac{86}{15}
x = - 5\frac{11}{15}
simplify LHS and RHS and then for linear equation and solve to find x
Here is the solution
x²+3x-5=(x+9)² (a+b)²=a²+b²+2ab
x²+3x-5=x²+81+18x on cancelling x² on both lhs and rhs since the have same sign
3x-5=81+18x on transposing
-5-81=18x-3x
-86=15x
x=-86/15
Hope it helps
