zig zag motion of solute particles in solution is brownian motion.  This can either happens in liquid or in gaseous state. It is because in these two states the energy acquired by the particles are high. When energy increases, the freedom of motion of particles increases and this will cause the collision to happen. This collision takes place in a random way , more likely to happen like zigzag and hence it is known as Brownian motion since it was discovered by a scientist names brown
