Answer:

(1) Sum of supplementary angles = 180°

1st angle = y°

2nd angle = (5y - 30)°

⇒ y + (5y - 30) = 180

6y - 30 = 180

6y = 180 + 30

6y = 210

y = 210/6

y = 35°

1st angle = y

= 35°

2nd angle = 5y - 30

= 5(35) - 30

= 175 - 30

= 145°

(2) Sum of complementary angles = 90°

1st angle = x°

2nd angle = (3x - 50)°

⇒ x + (3x - 50) = 90

4x - 50 = 90

4x = 90 + 50

4x = 140

x = 140/4

x = 35°

1st angle = x

= 35°

2nd angle = 3x - 50

= 3(35) - 50

= 105 - 50

= 55°

Hope it helps
