India became free on 15 August 1947 from British rule. Now, it was time to establish our rule as per our wish. So, a fundamental law was written, called the Constitution of India. This is the supreme law of the land. This came into force on 26 January 1950. On this day, India became a republic, so this day is celebrated as Republic Day each year.
Republic Day is celebrated with much fanfare. The main function in the country is held in New Delhi. At first, the National Flag is hoisted. After this, a grand parade is held on this occasion. It comprises teams from the army, navy and air force, police, and other organizations.
A display of India's might is also showcased in it. Many tableaux are also exhibited, showing India's progress and culture in different shades. Several children take part in it. They present dance and drama. The brave children, too, take part in the parade.
The most spectacular display is from the air force when different types of fighter airplanes show other skills in flying. People hold their breath as they go up and come down at tremendous speed.
