As we know that,

Total sales in 1981 is = Grocery + Vegetables + Medicines + Textiles + Novelties

Let the total sales is x and for textiles it will be 30% of x as given.

Now, put all the values into above expression and find the value of x,

Step 2:

In 1982

Total sales in 1982 is = 10% of x + x

or, Total sales = 161000 + 1610000 = 1771000

Grocery = 8% of 625000 + 625000 = 50000 + 625000 = 675000

Vegetables = 10% of 220000 + 220000 = 22000 + 220000 = 242000

Medicines dropped by 12000, so medicines = 175000

Novelties = 1771000-675000-242000-175000-536000 = 143000

In 1983

Total sales in 1983 is = 1771000

Grocery decreased by 22000, so grocery = 653000

Vegetables decreased by 32000, so vegetables = 210000

Medicines decreased by 10000, so medicines = 165000

Novelties decreased by 20,000, thus novelties = 131000

Textiles = 1771000 − 653000 − 210000 − 165000 − 131000 = 612000
