immense heat. If the temperature due to heat does not exceed a certain amount(2000° C) ,no change of mass will occur.

If the temperature exceeds 2000°C then the following reaction will occur-

CaCO₃(s) = CaO(s) + CO₂(g) ↑

we know, 100 gm CaCO₃ = 1 mole CaCO₃

Hence, 10 gm CaCO₃=0.1 mole CaCO₃

From above reaction , 1 mole CaCO₃ produces 1 mole CO₂ upon heating.

Then 0.1 mole CO₂= (44 gm *0.1)= 4.4 gm CO₂ will be produced in the following case.

Hence , decrease in mass is 4.4 gm.
