Given :

ABC Car rentals rate : $25 per day plus 0.10 per mile.

XYZ Car rentals rate : $40 per day plus 0.50 per mile.

To find :

the number of miles, that cost of renting a car the same at both companies.

Explanation :

We are given two different charges by the two companies. First we make equations of the charges by both companies.

Company ABC = 25 + 0.10m

Company XYZ = 40 + 0.50m

Now, 25 + 0.10m = 40 + 0.50m

0.10m - 0.50m = 40 - 25

-0.40m = 15

m = \frac{15}{-0.40}

   = -37.5 miles

But distance can not be in negative notation so the renting of the cars from both the companies can not be equal.
