Descending order

 0 >  -  \frac{2}{4}  >  -  \frac{19}{20}  >  -  \frac{7}{5}  >  -  \frac{17}{10}

Ascending order

\  -  \frac{17}{10}  <  -  \frac{7}{5}  <  -  \frac{19}{20}  <  -  \frac{2}{4}  < 0

Given:- -17/10, -7/5, 0, -2/4, -19/20

To Find:- Ascending and descending order of the given rational numbers.

Solution:-

To compare rational numbers the denominator of the numbers should be the same. To make the denominators equal LCM of the numbers is taken into consideration.

The LCM of 10, 5, 0, 4, 20 is 20

Make the denominators of all the rational numbers 20.

 -  \frac{17}{10}  \times  \frac{2}{2}  = -   \frac{34}{20}  \\  -  \frac{7}{5}  \times  \frac{4}{4}  =  -  \frac{28}{20}  \\ 0 = 0 \\   -  \frac{2}{4}  \times  \frac{5}{5}  =  -  \frac{10}{20}  \\  -  \frac{19}{20}  \times  \frac{1}{1}  =  -  \frac{19}{20}

Note: decimal numbers are less than 0.

Compare the rational numbers from the equation done to make the denominators equal.

Arrange the following rational numbers in descending order :

0 >   -  \frac{10}{20}  >  -  \frac{19}{20}  >  -  \frac{28}{20}  >  -  \frac{34}{20}  \\ 0 >  -  \frac{2}{4}  >  -  \frac{19}{20}  >  -  \frac{7}{5}  >  -  \frac{17}{10}

Arrange the following rational numbers in ascending order :

 -  \frac{34}{20}  <  -  \frac{28}{20}  <  -  \frac{19}{20}  <  -  \frac{10}{20}  <  0 \\  -  \frac{17}{10}  <  -  \frac{7}{5}  <  -  \frac{19}{20}  <  -  \frac{2}{4}  < 0
