The probability that 5 boys stand between 2 particular boys is 1/60

GIVEN

Number of boys in the queue = 10

TO FIND

The probability of 5 students standing between 2 particular boys.

SOLUTION

We can simply solve the above problem as follows-

We know that,

2 boys can be arranged in total 4 ways leaving 5 space between them.

So,

5 boys can be arranged in - ⁸C₅ ways

Remaining 3 boys can be arranged in, ³C₃ ways

Therefore,

Total number of ways = 4×⁸C₅׳C₃ = 672

The total arrangement possible = 8!

We know that,

Probability = Favorable outcomes /Total outcomes

Putting the values in the above formula,

Probability = 672/8!

= 1/60

Hence, The probability that 5 boys stand between 2 particular boys is 1/60
