set to untangle the tow-line as he had to tow the boat further. The author gives very strange and unaccountable accounts of a tow-line while George untangles the line and tows the boat on to Penton Hook.

The man on the bank, who is trying to disentangle it, thinks that the fault lies with the man who rolled it up; on the other hand, the man who wound it up thinks the whole cause of the muddle rests with the man who is trying to unwind it.

Funny incidents happen in connection with towing; and mostly because the two persons who are towing get involved in an animated discussion or intimate conversation.

The author recalls the incident when two men, deeply into their discussion, were towing a boat briskly. George also shares an incident when he noticed a fellow and a girl a little above Cookham lock. Another incident that the author narrates is a mishap. A small boat was being towed through the water at a tremendous pace by a powerful barge horse with a very small boy in it. Another boat, carrying five gentlemen, got in its way. It barged on to the bank and threw it inmates and content out of it. The author recalls being terribly upset once up the river.
