On the upcoming June 17 we will observe world day to combat desertification. Desertification and drought are serious problems that a country faces. To overcome them, these are some of the strategies we can follow -

# Protection of vegetation cover - Plants and trees play a major role here. If you plant a tree, you help taking a step back from drought-like situations.This is because plants and trees play an important part in bringing rain. 

# Changing farming patterns - Farming reduces fertility which automatically leads to desertification. Sustainable farming patterns can help to prevent these situations.

# Manipulating policies - The policies that govern the lands should be ones that will help the land to thrive instead of allowing them to harm the land further. The policy changes could be anything depending on the type of land use.

# Prevention of degradation of ground water table - If ground water is less then there are more chances for occurance of a drought. Ideal use of such precious water resource should be done.

# Advancing in technology - Technological Advancing in this topic would help us find more ways to tackle such problem. 

# Educating - Education is one of the powerful tools which can help to avoid this critical problem. This allows people to think differently and shape their own policies.

# Awareness and participation - Nothing is possible without awareness and participation of people in these strategies. So, awareness and participation plays a key role.

Desertification is a huge problem that needs to be addressed accordingly, and if we take the time to do it now, we can prevent other problems from happening with it in the future.

10 ideas to combat desertification and drought - 

→ Saving the natural fertility of the soil : We need to ensure that the natural fertility of the soil will be increasing a lot, so that the fertility will stay all time and the production of the crops will also go properly and even in the increasing manner. 

→ Stop using artificial fertilizers : We need to stop the usage of the artificial fertilizers because we know that the artificial fertilizers are used for only a instant addition of the minerals in artificial way but later after 12 - 16 years the soil will be with out any fertilizer and it would not even be suitable for the construction also. 

→ Awareness with in all the people : We know people in villages aren't that much aware when compared to that of the one in the modern cities. If we raise awareness there we can really be away from drought situation. 

→ Crop rotation : The crop rotation is most awesome method used by the farmers so that the minerals in the soil will not deplete easily. 

→ Saving rain water : We need to save the rain water so that the water will not be wasted at all instead we can use the rain water to water the plants in our surroundings. 

→ Rain water harvesting : When it is raining a lot we will need to save that water for that we can dig a pit for harvesting the rain water and increase the water in the ground water table. 

→ Increasing the ground water level : We can use up the above 2 methods that is the rain water harvesting and saving water will be good because we know that water is the most essential resource. 

→ Stop global warming : Global warming is also a cause for that increasing in the desertification. For this we will need to stop pollution first and then the global warming will decrease and even the desertification will decrease. 

→ Using water in a limited way : using up the water in the limited way will help a lot because we know that water is now available for only some people and that water should also be used in a limited way. 

→ adapting different methods for farming : It's a know fact that growing paddy increases the growth of the global warming for that we will need to grow some other alternative crop like wheat, bhajra etc.
