Correct Question :- If an inlet pipe fills a tank in n hours and an outlet pipe empties the tank in m hours, the part of the tank filled in 1 hour when both are opened is …………… ?

Solution :-

we have,

→ Inlet pipe fills the tank in = n hours.

so,

→ Efficiency of inlet pipe = (1/n) / hour.

similarly,

→ Outlet pipe empties the tank in = m hours.

so,

→ Efficiency of outlet pipe = (-1/m) / hour.

then,

→ Efficiency of Inlet + Outlet in 1 hour = {(1/n) + (-1/m)} = (1/n) - (1/m) = (m - n)/mn (Ans.)
