Step-by-step explanation:

Let the CP of one chair = x

CP of 10 chair =10x

CP of 12 chair = 12x

Sp of 12 chair = 10x

SP of one chair = 10x/12= 5x/6

Loss = x- 5x/6

=x/6

loss % = x/6 ÷ x * 100

= 16.66%

There is a loss and the loss is 16.67%

Explanation:

Let, the C.P. of 1 chair be, 'n'.

∴ The C.P. of 10 chairs = (n×10)

                                     = 10n

∴ The C.P. of 12 chairs = (n×12)

                                     = 12n

According to the problem,

The S.P. of 12 chairs is 10n.

10n<12n

S.P.<C.P.

Hence, there is a loss.

∴ Loss = (12n-10n)

           = 2n

∴ Loss % = (2n/12n)×100

              =(2n×100/12n)

             =(100/6)

             = 16.666

            = 16.67 %

∴ The loss is 16.67%.
