Let‘V’ litres of milk-water mixture in the ratio of 5:3 be removed and the same V- litres of water be added.

After these processes the milk-water ratio of the mixture is 1:1.

Then the required equation is

(100-V) x 3/8 +V= 100 x .50

=37.5 +0.625 V= 50

=V= 12.5/0.625 =20

Therefore when 20% (1/5 part) of the mixture be withdrawn and replaced by the same amount of water, then we will get milk-water mixture in the ratio of 1:1
