When energy is passed in an ecosystem from one trophic level to the next, only ten percent of the energy will be passed on. A trophic level is the position of an organism in a food chain or energy pyramid.

Answer: According to % law, in every successive stage of food chain, only % of energy is transferred to the next trophic level.
For example, the food chain is as follows-
Plants → Grasshopper → Frog → Snake → Bird
If the producer (Plant) has 100,000J, the next trophic level will be passed on only 10% of energy, which is 10,000J. The similar process will continue till the end of food cycle.
Plants → Grasshopper → Frog → Snake → Bird
100,000J 10,000J 1000J 100J 10J
Thus, only 10J energy is available to the Bird.
