The complete name of Mahatma Gandhi was ' Mohandas karamchand Gandhi ' . Mahatma Gandgi was born on 2nd october , 1869 at Porbandar in Gujarat state of India . Gandhiji's father's name was ' karamchand uttamchand Gandhi 'and mother name was ' PutliBai Gandhi '. The title of' Mahatma' was given to Gandhiji by Rabindranath Tagor at Shantiniketan Ashram . Gandhiji completed his studied in Law from London . After returning from London , at the age of 23 he want to South Africa to practice law there . Mahatma Gandhi started some newspaper and publication too , the most prominent were Indian opinion , young India and Navjivan and Harijan . He started many political movement like civil rights Movement in South Africa , in India Movement like non cooperation movement , Dandi or Salt Satyagrah , Champaran and Kheda Satyagrah , Quit India Movement and Khilafat movement . He was assassinated on 30 January 1948.
