Kabaddi is a rural game. But it is very popular in cities as well. It is played by boys. And even by young men. It is a very useful game. It exercises almost every part of the body. At the same time, it costs not even a single paisa. It is played in the open, and any number of players can take part in it. It is played in different ways, but its rules in each case are very simple. The players divide themselves into two parties they draw a line in the middle of the field and fix its ends as the limits for common passage. They take their positions on the opposite sides of the line. A player from one side goes to the other, saying “ Kabaddi” in an unbroken breath. He tries to touch anyone of his opponents, without being touched or caught by anybody. But if he is caught and loses his breath, he cannot any longer take part in the game and the other team wins a point. On the other hand, if he touches anyone of his opponents and returns in the same breath, his team wins a point. In this way, the players go on visiting the rival camps, turn by turn. And the side that scores more points wins the match.
