Given:

10 microfarad capacitor is charged to a potential of 100V. It is then connected to another uncharged capacitor .The common potential reached is 40V.

To find:

Capacitance of the uncharged Capacitor

Calculation:

Since there is no loss of charge while connecting the second uncharged Capacitor, we can say that common potential V is ;

 \therefore \: V =  \dfrac{C1V1 + C2V2}{C1 + C2}

Putting available values ;

 =  > 40 =  \dfrac{(10 \times 100) + ( C\times 0)}{10 +C }

 =  > 40 =  \dfrac{(10 \times 100) + 0}{10 +C }

 =  > 40 =  \dfrac{1000}{10 +C }

 =  > 400 + 40 C=  1000

 =  >  40 C=  600

 =  >   C=  15 \:  \mu F

So, final answer is

 \boxed{ \sf{ \large{ C=  15 \:  \mu F}}}
