Correct question :

10 ml of 0.5 N HCI , 30 ml of 0.1 N HNO₃ and 75 ml of 0.2 N H₂SO₄ , are mixed together. The normality of the mixture is:

(1) 0.2 N

(2) 2N

(3)0.08 N

(4)0.4 N

Given :

The given solution are mixed

  • 10ml 0.5N HCl
  • 30ml 0.1N HNO₃
  • 75 ml of 0.2 N H₂SO₄

To find :

Normality of final solution

Formula used :

N₁V₁ + N₂V₂ + N₃V₃ = N₄V₄

Solution :

As all added solution are acids, we will use above mentioned formula to find normality of mixture.

{ Note - We can take volume in ml also }

  • V₁ = 10ml N₁ = 0.5N
  • V₂ = 30ml N₂ = 0.1N
  • V₃ = 75ml N₃ = 0.2N

V₄ = Volume of final solution = V₁ + V₂ + V₃

V₄ = 10ml + 30ml + 75ml

V₄ = 115ml

Putting above value in N₁V₁ + N₂V₂ + N₃V₃ = N₄V₄

(10×0.5) + (30×0.1) + (75×0.2) = N₄(115)

5 + 3 + 15 = N₄(115)

23 = N₄(115)

N₄ = 23 ÷ 115

N₄ = 0.2 N

ANSWER :

Option (1) 0.2N
