Nervous tissue signals the muscles in eyelid to blink.

Blinking of eyelids is involuntary act which can be done voluntarily. Third and seventh carnival nerve innervate the muscles responsible for blinking of eye.

Blinking is done in order to prevent high amount of light, prevent dmage from dust and to lubricate the eyes. Dryness of eyes can cause disorders.
