Given : 10% of a vessel full of milk is drawn off and replaced with water then 10% of this mixture is drawn off' and replaced with milk

10 % of the mixture is again drawn off' and replaced with water

the vessel now contains 199.1 litres of water

To Find : volume of the vessel in litres

Solution:

Volume of Vessel    = 100V  Litres

MILK  = 100V   Litres

10% of a vessel full of milk is drawn off and replaced with water

=> MILK = 100V - (10/100)100V = 90V Litre

WATER = 10V Litre

10% of this mixture is drawn off' and replaced with milk

10V = 10 % of Mixture

=> MILK = 90V  - (90V/100V)(10V)  + 10V  = 91V  Litre

WATER = 9V  Litre

10 % of the mixture is again drawn off' and replaced with water

Water  = 9V  - (9/100)10V  + 10V   = 18.1V  Litre

18.1V  = 199.1

=> V  = 11

=> 100V = 1100

volume of the vessel in litres   = 1100 Litre
