10 percent law. Explain briefly

The 10% law states that only !0% of energy what an organism consumes becomes a part of its own body and is available to the organisms in the next trophic level. The rest 90% of energy consumed by the organism is wasted int he form of heat or utilised to do work. This is only applicable when the first organism or source of energy in a food chain is  the primary producers and it is not work if we include energy of sunlight in the food chain(Trust me! some food chains also show sun in the beginning!) because only 1% of the solar energy is converted to energy in the plants by photosynthesis.
