Given

Area of rectangular field ⇒ 465 m²

Length of rectangular field ⇒ 31 m

Breadth of rectangular field ⇒ x

Cost of fencing per metre ⇒ $15.50

To Find

(i) The breadth of the rectangular field

(ii) Cost of fencing at the rate of $15.50 per metre.

______________________________________________

Solution

(i) Area of rectangular field ⇒ 465 m²

Area of rectangle ⇒ Length × Breadth

Length ⇒ 31 m

Breadth ⇒ 465 ÷ 31 = 15 m

∴ The breadth of the rectangular field is 15 m

(ii) Area of rectangular field ⇒ 465 m²

Length ⇒ 31 m

Breadth ⇒ 15 m

Perimeter of rectangle ⇒ 2 × (Length + Breadth)

Perimeter of rectangular field ⇒ 2 × (31 + 15)

⇒ 2 × 46

⇒ 92 m

Cost of fencing per metre ⇒ $15.50

Cost of fencing the entire rectangular field ⇒ 92 × 15.50

⇒ $1426

∴ The cost of fencing the rectangular field would be $1426
