Given :- The ratio of Jim's salary for October to his salary for November was 9: 8 and the ratio of the salary for November to that for December was 3: 4. The worker got 40 rupees more for December than for October and received a bonus constituting 40 percent of the salary for three months.

To Find :- Find the bonus. (Assume that the number of workdays is the same in every month.)

Solution :-

Let Jim's salary for october to his salary for November was 9x and 8x respectively . Also, his salary for November to that for December was let 3y and 4y respectively .

since, salary in november was same ,

→ 8x = 3y

→ x = (3y/8)

so,

→ salary in october = 9x = 9 * (3y/8) = (27y/8)

now, given ghat, The worker got 40 rupees more for December than for October .

then,

→ 4y = (27y/8) + 40

→ 4y - (27y/8) = 40

→ (32y - 27y/8) = 40

→ (5y/8) = 40

→ y = 64

therefore,

→ Salary in October = (27 * 64)/8 = Rs.216

→ Salary in November = 3y = 3 * 64 = Rs.192

→ Salary in December = 4y = 4 * 64 = Rs.256

hence,

→ Required bonus for three months = (40/100)[216 + 192 + 256] = (2/5) * 664 = Rs.265.6 (Ans.)
