Required Answer :

The two numbers are :

  • 15 and 21

Given :

  • Ratio of the two numbers = 5 : 7
  • The ratio of the two numbers when 3 is subtracted to both the numbers = 2 : 3

To find :

  • The two numbers

Solution :

Let,

  • The first number = 5x
  • The second number = 7x

According to the question,

⇒ (5x - 3)/(7x - 3) = 2/3

⇒ 3(5x - 3) = 2(7x - 3)

⇒ 15x - 9 = 14x - 6

⇒ 15x - 14x = - 6 + 9

⇒ x = 3

⇒ The value of x = 3

Substituting the value of x :

First number :

⇒ First number = 5x

⇒ First number = 5(3)

First number = 15

Second number :

⇒ Second number = 7x

⇒ Second number = 7(3)

Second number = 21
