Given : y = x² - 3x - 10

To Find :  solution of x² - 3x - 10 <  0

Solution:

y = x² - 3x - 10

=> y = x² - 5x + 2x - 10

=> y = x(x - 5) + 2(x - 5)

=> y = (x - 5)(x + 2)

x² - 3x - 10 < 0

=>  (x - 5)(x + 2) < 0

x = 5 , -2   => y = 0

x > 5 => y =  (+)(+) = + >  0

-2 < x < 5  => y = (-)(+) = -  < 0

x < - 2 => y =   (-)(-) = +  >0

Hence  x ∈ ( - 2 , 5 )
