  • L.C(Least Count) = 1 M.S.D(1-m/n)

L.C = 0.1cm(1-9/10)

L.C = 0.1cm(10-9/10)

L.C = 0.1cm × 0.1

L.C = 0.01cm

# Note: 1 M.S.D(Main Scale Division) = 0.1 cm

m = 9 M.S.D

n = 10 V.S.D

∵ Generally 10 V.S.D = 9 M.S.D (Same in this question).

Now,

  • M.S.R = 12.2 cm
  • V.S.R = L.C × coinciding division of Vernier Scale

= 0.01cm × 7

= 0.07cm

  • T.R(Total Reading) = M.S.R(Main Scale Reading) + V.S.R(Vernier Scale Reading)

= 12.2cm + 0.07cm

= 12.27cm

Answer: 12.27cm

- Do not get confused with the starting tip of the V.S(Vernier Scale) as the starting 0. The Vernier Scale's zero is between 12.2cm and 12.3cm of Main Scale.
