Answer:
(Ravi and Seema were sitting in the classroom, debating)
Ravi: I don't really understand. Why do we always talk about gender equality? Aren't we all equal?
Seema: If we consider the whole society, then the answer is negative. Even today, in many places women are not allowed to work outside, are forced to do all the household work and are generally not treated equally.
Ravi: I agree with your point that they, at times are not treated equally, but, what's wrong if they are not allowed to work outside. I mean, it is quite silly to argue about this.
Seema: Do you really think so? Do you want to say that women should do all the household work? Then how do think they are equal?
Ravi: See, I think that the world, from the very beginning, was like this. Women would take care of children, do all the household work whilst the men worked outside. That time, the life was quite peaceful and no one talked about inequality. So, why now?
Seema: I totally disagree. You must remember that times change. Over the time, women realised their rights and fought for it. Our societies have always been dominated by male. We now conventionally believe that women must stay at home while man must work outside.
Ravi: That's because they are incapable of doing such things.
Seema: However, that does not have any basis. If you look at the past record, women have performed at par with men, in education as well as every other field of work. And after all, aren't men capable of doing household work? We must remember that what was followed in the past may not always be right.
Ravi: Hmmmm... You do have a point. Everything done in the past may not be right. (Looks at his watch) Oh my, it's almost time. Maybe we will continue this debate later. I need to go to our science professor. Bye
Seema: Okay then, bye.
Hope it helps.
It's time to consider everyone equal.
