Step-by-step explanation:

Let, the

PRESENT AGES BE:

Father's age be 'x'

son's age be 'y'

Given,

10 years ago the age of father 3.5times more than the age of his son

x-10=3.5(y-10)

x-3.5y+25=0. _1

Also given,

after 10 years the age of father will be 2.5 times more than age of his son

x+10=2.5(y+10)

x-2.5y=15. _2

subtracting equations 1&2 we get,

-y=-40

y=40

substituting value of y in

equation 2.we get,

x-2.5(40)=15

x-100=15

x=115

the sum of present age of father and son is x+y i.e 115+40=155
