Let 10 years ago,

Age of the son = 5x years

Age of the father = 8x years

After 10 years,

Age of son = Age 10 years ago + 20 years

                   = ( 5x + 20 ) years

Age of father = Age 10 years ago + 20 years

                      = ( 8x + 20 ) years

According to the question : -

Ratio of ages become 7 : 9

( 5x + 20 ) : ( 8x + 20 ) = 7 : 9

9( 5x + 20 ) = 7( 8x + 20 )

45x + 180 = 56x + 140

180 - 140 = 56x - 45x

40 = 11 x

40 / 11 = x

Therefore,

Present age of son : 5x + 10 years

                ⇒ 5( 40 / 11 ) + 10 years

                ⇒ 200 / 11 + 10 years

                ⇒ ( 200 + 110 ) / 11 years

                ⇒ 310 / 11 years

Present age of father = 8x + 10 years

               ⇒ 8( 40 / 11 ) + 10 years

               ⇒ 320 / 11 + 10 years

               ⇒ ( 320 + 110 ) / 11 years

               ⇒ 430 / 11 years
