Given : A new unit of measurement 'UTS'

           Value of 100 N in UTS = 10^{7}

To Find: Possible equivalent of UTS

Solution:

  • We can solve this question by hit-and-trial method.

                       100 Newton = 100 kg m/s²           (1)

  Let us consider the same value in g cm/s²

  1.  1 kg = 1000 g
  2.  1 m = 100 cm
  3.  1 s = 1s

Substituting these values in (1)

            ∴ 100 kg m/s² = 100 × 1000 g × 100 cm × \frac{1}{s^{2} }

           ⇒ 100 kg m/s² = 10^{7} g cm/s²

or             100 Newton = 10^{7} dyne              (dyne = g cm/s²)

Hence, UTS is equivalent to dyne.
