She devotes herself to looking after the narrator while he is young, and then even when he grows distant as he pursues his interests when he is older, she remains devoted to loving him and allowing him to live his own life. The narrator believes his grandmother is very beautiful in the sense that he has a great amount of respect for her.

Grandmother, like everybody's grandmother , was an old woman. She had been old and wrinkled for the twenty years.
