H = VIT (formula for heat) --(1)

We know that I = V/R

Hence Substitute V/R in place of I in equation 1..

H = V x V/R x T

100 = V^2/ 4 x 1 (because heat generated is for each 1 second)

400 = v^2

v = √400 = 20 Volts.

Hence the potential difference across the resistor is 20 Volts.
