let sides of square be equal to a and diagonal

8 cm

by applying pythagoras theoram

ac^2=ab^2+bc^2

8^2=a^2+a^2

64=2a^2

64/2=a^2

32= a^2

4√2 =a

5.65=a

side=5.65
