Aryabhata was one of the first Indian Mathematicians and astronomers. He was born in 476 BC in Tarenaga, a town in Bihar, India. He studied and resided in Kusumapara for some time. It is hypothesized that Aryabhata was the principal of the University of Nalanda, for a while. Aryabhata was the head of the educational institute in Kusumapara. His chief work was the ‘Ayrabhatiya’ a compilation of mathematics and astronomy.

He pointed out the both lunar and solar eclipses. Aryabhata stated that the correct number of days in a year were 365.

 He was the first person to observe that the earth was not flat but in fact spher‘Ayrabhatiya’ covers several branches of mathematics such as algebra, arithmetic, plane and spherical trigonometry.
