Find the value of x and y

SOLUTIOn

Given equations

  • 3x + 10y = 20 --(i)
  • 3x - 8y = 14 --- (ii)

Subtract both the equations

→ (3x + 10y) - (3x - 8y) = 20 - 14

→ 3x + 10y - 3x + 8y = 6

→ 18y = 6

→ y = 6/18 = 1/3

Put the value of y in eqⁿ (ii)

→ 3x - 8y = 14

→ 3x - 8 × 1/3 = 14

→ 3x - 8/3 = 14

→ 3x = 14 + 8/3

→ 3x = 42 + 8/3

→ 3x = 50/3

→ x = 50/3 × 3

→ x = 50/9

Hence, the required value of x is 50/9

And the required value of y is 1/3
