11. A galvanometer has a resistance of 40 Ω and current of 40Ω and a current of 4 mA is needed for a full scale deflection. What is the resistance and how is to be connected to convert the galvanometer a) into an ammeter of 0.4A range and b) into a voltmeter of 0.5 A range

Answer:

Given = R = 40Ω

             IG = 4mA

to find =  resistance

solution =

        apply the formula ,

(I - IG ) S = IG x G

(0.4 - 0.004)S = 0.004 x 40

S = 0.004 x 40 /0.396

S =  0.4040Ω

so to convert the galavanometer into an ammeter of range 0.4 is 0.4040.

     now apply the formula

V = Ig (g +x )

0.5 = 0.004 (40 + x)

X = 0.5 / 0.004 -40

X = 85

into a voltmeter of 0.5 A range is 85Ω.
