length= 2x-8

perimeter= 56

perimeter = 2(l+b)

56 = 2 ( 2x-8 + x )

56 = 2(3x - 8 )

56 = 6x - 16

6x = -16 - 56

6x = -72

x = -72/6

x = -36 /3

x = -12
