11. A train passes a 240-m-long platform in 18 seconds and a man standing on it in 10
seconds. Find the (1) speed and (ii) length of the train.

Let length of the train be x m .

Speed of train = x / 10 m/s . { speed  = distance / time }

Total distance travelled = (x + 240)m

Total time taken = 18 seconds

Speed × time = distance

x/10 × 18 = (x + 240)

9x/5 = x + 240

9x = 5x + 1200

4x = 1200

x = 300m = Length of train .

Speed = 300/10 = 30 m/s
