11. ∆ ABC is right-angled at C. If AC = 5 cm and BC = 12 cm find the length of AB.

AB = ?, AC = 5cm , BC = 12cm

By Pythagoras theorem,

ab {}^{2}  = ac {}^{2}  + bc {}^{2}

ab { }^{2}  =  {5}^{2}  +  {12}^{2} \\  \\

 {ab}^{2}  = 25 + 144

ab {}^{2}  = 169

ab {}^{2}  =  {(13)}^{2}

Cancelling squares

ab = 13

Therefore, AB = 13cm.
