11. According to Newton's third law 'every action
has equal and opposite reaction. Then why do
we not move downwards the same distance
when we throw a stone upward? Explain.
Answers
Answer:
According to Newton's third law, “every action has an equal and opposite reaction”. This law can be applied anywhere at any time within this Universe.
If we throw a stone upward we give some force to the stone upward direction, this force exerts an equal and opposite force towards downward direction. But this force is very less . So we could not feel this motion with our sense organs.
For example If we take 1kg mass and throw them with a force of 100 Newton, it will get acceleration ,100 m/sec^2 towards upward direction.
The same 100 Newton force is exerted in the opposite direction. So we will move along with the earth in the opposite direction . The mass of the earth is 5.972 × 10^24 kg.
Force applied on us by the stone = Force we applied on the stone
Mass of earth × Acceleration of earth = mass of stone × acceleration of stone
F (er) = F(st)
M×A. =. m × a
5.972 × 10^24 × A = 1× 100
Ace = 1× 100 /5.972 × 10^24
Ace. = 1 / 5.972 × 10 ^22
Ace = 1.674 × 10^-23 m/sec^2
This value is very less, so we could not feel this acceleration of the earth downward direction. Moreover if any body throws the stone having tne same mass with same force upward direction in the opposite direction of the earth, this acceleration also cancel each other .Then we couldn't get any resultant force..

Answer:
When you throw the stone you feel a slight movement in your hand that is the reason for the third law of motion it is negligible in this case.
