Environment and Environmental Studies: Definition, concept, components and importance

• The surroundings in which any living being (i.e., human, animal, or plant lives) are present are referred to as the "environment." Anthropogenic activities have an impact on the natural environment as a whole or in a specific geographical location.
• Because “Environmental Studies” is an interdisciplinary study, it incorporates environmental components from other subjects such as chemistry, geology, ethics, and so on to handle complicated modern environmental concerns.

Environmental Components:

• There are four major environmental components, which are as follows:
• Lithosphere: This is the Earth's solid exterior layer, which contains the brittle crust and the top section of the upper mantle.
• Hydrosphere: This is the entire amount of water on the planet.
• Atmosphere: This is the important layer of gases that surrounds our Blue Earth.
• Because life exists on land, in the air, and in the water, the biosphere encompasses all of these domains.

Environmental Importance:

• It maintains the ecological equilibrium that keeps the earth in check.
• It meets humanity's basic requirements such as food, shelter, and air.
