R will get 140 more than his share by error

Given:

585 be divided among P, Q and R in the ratio of 4:3:2

by mistake the distribution was made in the ratio 1/4 : 1/3 : 1/2

[ In given problem 1:1:1 might be wrong the corrected one is 1/4 : 1/3 : 1/2 ]

To find:

How much does R will gain by error?

Solution:

Given 585 will be divided among P, Q and R in the ratio of 4:3:2

Let 4x, 3x and 2x are be the shares of P, Q and R

[ Since they are in 4:3:2 ratio ]

⇒ 4x + 3x + 2x = 585

⇒ 9x = 585

⇒ x = 65

Then share of R = 2(65) = 130

Given that by mistake the distribution was made in the  1/4 : 1/3 : 1/2

Then a/4, a/3, a/2  are be the shares of P, Q and R

⇒ a/4 + a/3 + a/2= 585

⇒ (3a+4a+6a)/12 = 585

⇒ 3a+4a+6a = 7020

⇒ 13a = 7020

⇒ a = 7020/13

⇒ a = 540

Then share of R, a/2 = 540/2 = 270

Difference of both shares = 270 - 130 = 140

Therefore,

R will get 140 more than his share by error
