11. Joshua resides in a certain city, but he starts a new job in the neighboring
city. Every Monday, he drives his new car 90 kilometers from his residence to
the office and spends the week in a company apartment. He drives back home
every Friday. After 4 weeks of this routinary activity, his car's odometer shows
that he has travelled 870 kilometers since he bought the car. Write a linear
model which gives the distance y covered by the car as a function of x number
of weeks since he used the car.
A. y = 180x + 150
B. y = 90x + 510
C. y = 180x + 510
D. y = 90x + 150

Step-by-step explanation:

In a week, total diztance travelled = 90(to reach office) + 90(to come back) = 180 km.

So,

In 1 week, total distance is 180 km.

In x week, total distance is 180x km.

So,

In 4 week, total distance is 180(4) = 720 km. But his car shows 870, it implies he had already travelled somewhere.

So, extra distance = 870 - 720 km = 150 km.

This distance will remain same, as it has been travelled and don't depend of the value of x.

So,

f(x) = distance in x week + 150

y = 180x + 150
