Converging beams of light means those beams which concentrate (converge) and form small beam of light While on the other hand Diverging beams of light means this beams which spread (diverge) in large area.

A convex lens can be used to converge beams of light , magnifying glasses are also examples of such lens therefore they are also called converging lenses whereas Concave lens can be used to diverge beams of light.
