You can solve this like a quadratic equation:

First, distribute x in parentheses

x(x+5)=2 becomes x^2 + 5x = 2

Then put all numbers to one side

x^2 + 5x -2 = 0

Since this can’t be factored, I would use the quadratic equation or by completing the square. I am going to be using completing the square.

So put the last number back to the other side

x^2 + 5x = 2

Now do (5/2)^2 = 6.25

Add 6.25 to each side

x^2 + 5x + 6.25 = 8.25

Now you can factor it and it becomes

(x+2.5)^2 = 8.25

Square root both sides

x+2.5 = √8.25

√8.25 is about 2.87 and since it is a square root it can be + or -

so x = (+ or - 2.87) - 2.5

OR

x(x+5)=2

x^2+5x=2

x^2+5x-2=0

a=1 b=5 c=-2

d=[-b+-sqrt{(b^2)–(4ac)}]/2a

=[-5+-sqrt{(5^2)-(4*1*-2)}]/2*1

=[-5+-sqrt(25+8)]/2

=[-5+-sqrt(33)]/2

=[-5+-(5.74)]/2

=(-5+5.74)/2 , (-5–5.74)/2

=(0.74/2) , (-10.74/2)

=0.37 , -5.37

x= 0.37 , -5.37

HOPE IT HELPS!!! :-)
